Illustrators in their Studios (Part 2)

Here is the second part of our feature in which we asked illustrator friends for photos of their studios. We've also added a few images we found on the web. See the preceding post for the previous installment.

Roger De Muth in his studio holding a tile from his series- "Artists & con-artists." The tile is a portrait of artist Pierre Auguste Renoir painted with a black slip and white underglaze on a red clay tile.

Roger made nearly 150 painted and glazed tiles during the six week class this summer at Syracuse University.

The picture below shows various portraits of "Artist's and con-artists" on a cart before the final glazing.

The studio cabinets and stained glass windows were all made by the artist. The cabinet on the left was designed to hold seeds for the garden.

Illustrators in their Studios (Part 1)

Welcome to the Syracuse Illustration program's blog page, Orange Studio. Orange Studio is a blog about all the wonderful things that are happening in the Syracuse Illustration program.

For our maiden Orange studio post we have asked many of our favorite illustrator friends to share photos of their studio spaces. The response was overwhelming! And for all who were too busy, we found images on the web—we hope everyone is cool with that! If not, we'll be happy to remove it. Included are also a few studio artists that we just love and we know will continue to influence and inspire.

Brian Floca with Sophie Blackall

Back in Feb. of 2013 The Blog site Pen and Oink showed us the studio space of children’s book author/illustrators Sophie Blackall, Brian Floca, Edward Hemingway (“Eddie”), John Bemelmans Marciano (“Johnny”), and Sergio Ruzzier. This groups have been sharing a studio for over two years—with the exception of Eddie who moved in a few months ago—and we can tell that they all genuinely enjoy sharing the space together.
